I do look back and think of my employment past as a valuable education. 18 years experience, hard bloody slog!
18 years of working for seven different reputable and recognised local design agencies.

Qualifications stand for a lot as I am sure you will agree, but design qualifications do not show you the ability of the graphic designer, or give the experience that clients actually need and also pay for.

It's the creative idea that is paid for - the end result, it’s not always the end design on paper you think you need. ‘Design a logo!’... ‘Design a new brochure’... ‘Design a website’... 7 hours max on this job’... they asked of me.

I have heard this many times - more than I’ve had hot dinners in fact. Mostly I have heard it from the employer or an account executive and ‘not‘ the client.

I mean how can you put time on the creative process?

However let’s face it, if you were to ask me to paint you a picture - in my eyes I can paint a picture as well as anyone. The end result may certainly satisfy me and you the commissioning client but you need to be sure that it will satisfy its audience.

However in some cases the client has painted the picture or has seen the result before it’s actually been started. I am not saying that’s wrong, in some cases that may be fine.

The past 18 years have been very valuable to Creative Avenue and have matured the thinking process of the design director behind this business.

I can honestly say that the 18 years have been worth it - every penny of it – and that ‘the penny has finally dropped.’

I hope you consider my points of view to be encouraging and thought provoking.

This is just one of many photographs Creative Avenue art directed for a particular client.
All the photographs were then digitally enhanced, then used to create new point of sale, trade advertisements and an eccomerce website.

Outer container and Inner cartons designed for highstreet retail. The design on view is one of three that were produced. This particular design helped sales increase by 25%. The range was given a new brand name which has enabled the range to rapidly grow. The brand name has helped the client focus on delivering new products, now taking the company into a new sector.
